Orlando credits SEI with teaching him his core values...
As the youngest in a family of five headed by a single mom, Orlando Williams
will tell you that attending SEI’s basketball camp was a profound experience
for boys in need of male role models. He remembers the first day, when Tony
Hopson introduced the concept of “Mr. SEI." This award would be given
to the athlete that embodied all the ideals of the SEI basketball camps: athletic
excellence, academic excellence and overall humanitarian excellence.
Orlando knew he wasn’t the most talented athlete at the camp, but he knew he was the hardest worker, and at the end of the week, he proudly walked away with the Mr. SEI jacket, carrying it with him to the NBA six years later.
Today, as President of Motus Recruiting,
a husband, father, and avid participant in his church, Orlando credits SEI with
teaching him his core values, “Basketball meant a lot—you wanted
to play, and you wanted to WIN. But SEI made me realize that no matter what,
you won’t always win, and you have to learn how to handle disappointment.
You’ve got to keep your composure and prepare for the next game.”
