Hello Neighbor
SEI
Academy students worked with Julie Keefe and Caldera
to create a public art project using photos and stories
of North Portland residents. Large posters of the photos
are displayed at locations throughout North and inner
NE Portland. Two places you can check them out: on the
side of Pistils Nursery at 3811 North Mississippi and
down the block on the northeast corner of Beech and

Mobile Medical Clinic
Every Monday, from 9-11 am, the Multnomah County Mobile
Medical Clinic offers free health services for low-income
families who are uninsured or on the Oregon Health Plan,
at SEI Community Services, 4134 North Vancouver Ave.
Clinic staff include a family practice physician, resgistered
nurse, medical assistant, psychiatric nurse, social
worker, nutritionist, dentist, dental assistant, and

This first annual Mississippi Street celebration of
bicycles with free family biking, a bike parade, criterion
races, live music, and more was sponsored by Laughing

The Community Talent Show presented by
the Pamplin Fellows. On April 30, community
youth and young adults filled the Center for Self Enhancement
with their wonderful original music, dance, poetry,
and more. Ashley Minniweather took first place in the
young adult competition, followed by Yasmine Moore and
Aaron Smith. The winners of the youth competition were
'Three Little Soldiers'. For more information contact

The SEI Annual Senior Citizens Banquet was
held Febraury 27 at the Center for Self Enhancement.
About 200 community seniors were honored at this dinner
served by SEI students. Special lifetime achievement
awards were given and SEI staff performe several musical

Black Love and the SEI Alumni Celebration
On February 22, members of the SEI
Alumni (Twin Life Productions) performed the play 'Black
Love', which was preceded by an SEI Alumni reception
and followed by an after hours party. Nearly 200 SEI
Alumni and friends gathered to re-connect and support

Tangoing with Tornadoes:
this choreoprogram by S. Renee Mitchell, addressing
themes of domestic violence. Performances are Friday
through Sunday at 7pm and Sundays at 3 pm at the Center

Harvest Party: On October
31, 1500 neighborhood children and parents came to the
Center for Self Enhancement for a safe and fun Halloween.
This year's theme was 'King Tut'; many mummies and pharoahs,
and a few harem princesses were in attendance. The evening
included a reptile room featuring an alligator with
a Nertitit costume, games and balloon crowns, candy
and organic fruit giveaways, and a haunted house. For

2007 Here + Now cocktail
benefit was held Friday, October 19. Nearly 500 people
attended, enjoying samples from some of Portland's finest
restaurants; interacting with students in computer,
science, and health education projects; singing with
the SEI choir, being inspired by student testimonials
and contributing over $250,000 for SEI's programs. To

2007 Art + Soul gala auction and dinner
was held Saturday, September 8. The
evening included stellar performances of the SEI Drumline
and Sounds of Soul mass choir, tours of the Center for
Self Enhancement with student presentations, the presentation
of the Life Has Options award fo the Hedinger Family
Foundation, and remarkable generosity from nearly 500

SEI Hosted the NBA
Rookie of the Year Ceremony for Brandon Roy
Portland Trailblazer Brandon Roy's achievement
was announced and celebrated at the Center for Self
Enhancement on May 2. Mr. Roy toured the Center with
CEO Tony Hopson and met SEI Academy students. The ceremony
included a performance by the SEI Drumlineand a presentation
of the Rookie of the Year Trophy by SEI students, as
well as remarks by Tony Hopson. SEI Alumni and Trailblazers
players Freddy Jones and Ime Udoka were also on hand
to celebrate with Mr. Roy and sign autographs for SEI
