SEI welcomes volunteers dedicated to making a difference
in the lives of inner-city youth and families. Volunteer
opportunities fall into three categories: (1) ongoing
/ short term support for a special event; (2) direct
service to youth; and (3) clerical support.
Special Event Assistance
• SEI hosts several events that are either fund
raisers or community events. Serve on a committee to
plan and organize the event, or come on the day of the
event to set up and help out.
Direct Service to Youth
• Library Helpers read with SEI students after
school in the library.
• Homework Tutors spend time with children or
young adults assisting them with their homework and
instructing them in basic math, reading, and writing.
Clerical Support
• The Development Department has large projects
which require help from volunteers. Volunteers can arrange
a weekly schedule or be "on call" helpers.
Contact Sharon Brabenac at sharonb@selfenhancement.org
or (503) 249-1721 X264 if you are interested in volunteering.
All volunteers begin the process by filling out a volunteer
application. (SEI performs background checks on all
applicants.) We will then set up an orientation, a tour
of the facility, and a training session. Volunteers
working with youth are asked to make a one year, once
per week commitment.
