SUCCESS STORY: AMAYA A.

“I am a proud black & Filipina woman who loves being a part of the diverse and inclusive culture at SEI. All over the SEI Center are reminders of African-American achievements that have been made in our community and throughout the world. From the TV display in the lobby that flashes through pictures of SEI kids, staff, and events, to the seeing family pictures on everyone’s desk. SEI’s hallways, classrooms, and offices are filled with representations of my culture, my people, and my values. I believe that these big or little, purposeful or subliminal, daily visual messages have truly been instrumental in creating who I am today.

The Center is a safe haven for me. A place I know I can always come home to, no matter where I go next, or how long I’ve been gone. The SEI standards and culture is so strongly woven into who I am that it’s almost like an armor of confidence and strength because I am confident in who I am, and I am strong because of the village that poured into me.”
